An article published yesterday in California Newswire highlights three California cities whose single-use plastic bag bans go into effect on January 1, 2016; Sacramento, American Canyon, and Milpitas.  In the first few months of the new year, Santa Barbara County, Hermosa Beach, and Cathedral City follow suit.  And San Diego is well on it's way to being the 146th city/county to pass a ban.

According to our Executive Director Mark Murray, the local bans have already prevented more than 10 billion bags annually from harming marine wildlife, clogging recycling machines, and polluting that state's land and waterways.  More than 40 million single-use plastic bags are still distributed every day in California.

This is all despite efforts by out-of-state bag manufacturers to repeal the statewide ban that we helped to pass just last year.  They spent millions to get a referendum put on the November 2016 ballot for voters to decide its fate.  Vote YES to uphold California's statewide bag ban!
